The Opportunity (Permanent Full-Time 40 hours per week )

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Transport Manager to join our client, a leading NI company within their field based in the Newtownabbey area.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Transport Manager to join this successful team playing a key role within the construction and commercial Industry.

Your new role

Responsibility for the development, performance and maintenance of the company’s transport to provide an effective service to our customers and to maintain an efficient transport operation which delivers on company targets for performance, value, safety and profitability.

Job Specification:

1.       Manage the development, performance and maintenance of the organisation’s transport to produce an efficient transport service which strives to meet company measures/KPI’s for efficiency, cost control, driver performance and customer satisfaction.

2.       Manage, direct and monitor the transport service and the overall performance of the transport to increase efficiency and maximise service, performance, value and profit.

3.       Make effective use of agreed systems and measurement tools to manage the transport operation, measure performance and challenge the transport team accordingly (e.g. optimise use of the tracking software).

4.       Work closely with senior management to produce/analyse required weekly and monthly reports and take corrective actions where necessary.

5.       Manage and maintain contact and communications with internal and external “client/customers” to achieve, as applicable, best value and satisfaction.

6.       Responsibly use resources and control expenses to meet budgetary controls.

7.       To support the ongoing development, implementation and monitoring of KPIs in conjunction with Senior management (business plans).

8.       Ensuring that the transport team understands its duties and its role within the organisation

9.       Management of the transport team, including recruitment, training, setting actions and targets, appraise and manage performance, development, coaching and general support of all team members to achieve departmental and company goals.

10.  Delegate authority and responsibility to the team with supervision, accountability and review.

11.  Conduct disciplinary investigations and hearings as necessary.

12.  Monitoring drivers CPC compliance and training, identify driver training needs and ensuring drivers complete their required training.

13.  Plan distribution routes in an efficient and cost effective manner in order to meet customer requirements.

14.  Preparation and distribution of pick lists to yard personnel, ensuring procedures for same are followed.

15.  Responsible for the preparation of P.O.Ds and management of the same to an accurate standard ensuring that all goods being placed on a vehicle are reflected on the pod.

16.  Receiving, processing, sorting, filing and distributing paperwork received from drivers to the relevant recipients.

17.  Responsible for ongoing vehicle maintenance and testing, liaise with maintenance providers, ensuring vehicles are PSV/MOT and roadworthy at all times.

18.  For monitoring driver hours in line with legislative requirements.

19.  To maintain data provided by digital and manual tachographs in line with statutory recording requirements.

20.  Responsible for arranging corrective actions arising from driver’s daily vehicle & trailer checks and maintaining thorough records of these actions.

21.  To complete weekly inspections of vehicles and trailers and ensure any defects are corrected appropriately.

22.  Maintenance of the company’s vehicle operator’s licence and any associated paperwork.

23.  For improving safety of work place by lowering incidence of safety related accidents.

24.  Load safety - To ensure the team of drivers are trained and load safety is maintained at all times

25.  To ensure that daily vehicle checks are completed properly and any defects corrected appropriately.

26.  To effectively communicate with personnel in other areas, in particular sales staff, yard supervisor and production team leaders in matters related to transport and planning.

27.  Carrying out any other duties commensurate with the position held.

What you’ll need to succeed?

  • At least two years’ experience with a Transport Management position.
  • CPC Qualification.
  • Strong IT skills
